about papertype project

Papertype Paper-made movable type. Perfect for mass production and light enough to be portable: these are the qualities that make papertype stand out from more traditional woodblock or metal-based movable print types. Above all else, paper’s greatest strength is that it can be processed. Be it with scissors or a box cutter, we can use things around us to process and alter it: by cutting by ripping by sticking by hitting by scratching and so on. By simply adjusting the shape and surface of letters we can create and print letters unique only to ourselves. Papertype is produced by laser-cutting paper into digital types specially designed for use as papertype. In the body of a text we can use digital type, and still use papertype (an analogue / movable type) in titles and headings. I have attempted here to create a typographic style that blends both digital and analogue techniques.
